Create an Outdoor Haven for Entertaining

Create an Outdoor Haven for Entertaining.

There’s nothing better than entertaining on a warm summer’s day, so give your outdoor space a face lift now, so you are ready for when Summer hits.

Create an Outdoor Haven for Entertaining
An outdoor entertaining area can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, but most of them have a few things in common. A shady area to sit, a BBQ and great times to be had.

Take your outdoor entertaining area to the next level with some of these ideas:

  • Build your BBQ into a bench and hook up to your mains gas, that way you will never run out of gas mid BBQ again.
  • Leave a space in your outdoor bench for a built-in fridge (bar or larger), this will make grabbing a cold one so much easier.
  • Add a tap and sink for easy access to water and somewhere for a quick clean up or hand wash.
  • A bi-fold window to your kitchen will make set up and clean up quicker.
  • Install ceiling fans over your entertaining area. Not only will they provide a cooling breeze, the moving air will also help to deter mosquitoes.
  • Install some outdoor heating, there are many options available now.
  • Install some outdoor power points for a convenient power supply when needed.
  • Lighting is always something that is overlooked in an outdoor space, talk to your local professionals at PlumbSpec for some great lighting ideas.
  • Roll-down PVC blinds are a great addition for inclement weather conditions and to deter insects.
  • Why not install a spa tub or outdoor bath on your deck or outdoor area?
  • Create eating, cooking and relaxation zones for a truly organised and elegant space.
  • Add some greenery to create calm and filter the air if your space is more enclosed.
  • A deck herb garden is ideal for adding a bit of flavour to your next BBQ.
  • Built-in bench seats are not only handy, they can double as storage boxes as well.
  • Connect your home to the outdoors by installing bi-fold, French or sliding doors to your outdoor area.
  • An outdoor shower is a great addition to a pool area or perfect if you and yours little darlings like to get dirty in the great outdoors. Leave your mud, dirt and grass clippings outside please!

Are you at risk of flooding, fire or big repair bills?

Are you at risk of flooding, fire or big repair bills?

Are you at risk of flooding, fire or big repair bills?

With spring cleaning well underway, now is the time to book in for a maintenance check of your plumbing, air conditioning and gas systems.

Are you at risk of flooding fire or big repair bills
Home and business owners can become complacent about having maintenance checks done and only face the regret when their home or business is faced with damage or total destruction.

Here are a few simple things you can do yourself:

  1. Clean around your outdoor air conditioning system to ensure a clear air flow and check for any animal infestations.
  2. Clean your air conditioner filters either by vacuuming or rinsing in warm soapy water, rinsing and drying.
  3. Check the yard for wet or sunken areas in the ground, this could indicate a water leak or broken pipe.
  4. Check all electrical cords for wear and tear.
  5. Check gas bottles and pipes for damage.
  6. Ensure adequate drainage for storm water around your house.
  7. Is your insulation up to standard?
  8. Are your appliances running up to standard and are they energy efficient?
  9. If your water or energy bills have risen at a rapid rate, this could be due to outdated or faulty appliances, a dirty air conditioner or water leaks.
  10. GET A PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE CHECK DONE BY PLUMBSPEC.

There are many areas that should not be inspected, repaired or replaced by a home handyman. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

If you are not sure what you should check or handle yourself, we are more than happy to help.

Too Many Carbon Monoxide Deaths

Too Many Carbon Monoxide Deaths

Too Many Carbon Monoxide Deaths.

There is a need for gas appliance checks, due to the fact that too many people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Too many deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas arising from incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. In a domestic setting, sources of CO include gas heaters (with and without flues), gas stoves, wood or charcoal heaters, tobacco smoke, and infiltration of car exhaust from attached garages.

Emissions in enclosed and unventilated domestic spaces can, and do, cause fatalities and hospitalisations.

Many heaters we use to heat our homes work by combusting gas. When gas is burned it releases carbon monoxide, as well as other gases, and if these are not flued to the outside of the home (a pipe or other mechanism to exhaust the smoke and gases to the outside of the home) or if the heater is faulty or old, and there is insufficient ventilation of the home, these gases can build up inside the home to hazardous levels.

Symptoms of CO poisoning can be mistaken for the flu, and include dizziness, headaches, malaise and nausea. Potentially susceptible groups include the elderly, people with health conditions, children, pregnant women and their unborn babies.

Of concern is that CO concentrations in indoor environments can rise relatively quickly and, given it’s an odourless gas, elevated levels have caused many accidental deaths in Australia. These deaths have usually been associated with exposure to emissions from malfunctioning gas appliances or inadequate ventilation of rooms and unflued gas heating systems.

Deaths have occurred in NSW, Victoria, WA, SA and QLD. And although reporting of fatalities associated with CO poisoning is reasonably accurate, there are also non-fatal poisoning events that are difficult to quantify due to inadequate reporting.

Multiple incidents of CO poisoning have also occurred after outdoor heating sources have been used in indoor environments. Examples include the use of barbecue coals used indoors to heat apartments.

Master Plumbers, the plumbing industry association, strongly supports a call for phasing out old-technology open-flued heaters along with consultation with industry to improve servicing compliance, a public awareness campaign on the dangers of carbon monoxide and ongoing training for plumbing professionals.

Master Plumbers CEO Peter Daly stated “All gas appliances have the potential to produce deadly carbon monoxide if they are not regularly serviced and maintained correctly.  Master Plumbers has been highlighting the need for mandated servicing for many years.”

Maintaining and checking your gas appliances is something that should be done yearly, by fully trained professionals. Heaters, hot water units, stoves and gas ovens can all pose a risk.

Here at Plumbspec we pride ourselves in our training and regularly checking for new industry standards. Our technicians are fully trained professionals and regularly perform safety checks as well as installs and maintenance.

Emergency Plumbers for Hot Water Systems in Albury Wodonga

Emergency Plumbers for Hot Water Systems in Albury Wodonga

Emergency Plumbers for Hot Water Systems in Albury Wodonga.

Hot water systems seem to always fail when you least expect them to and when they do, they are often an expense that you haven’t budgeted for…

Burst Hot Water time to call PlumbSpec

Shopping around for the best price for a hot water system can then become a headache, as it’s not just the cost of the hot water system itself you have to worry about, there’s the installation cost as well.

What’s worse is that many plumbers will give you a price that may sound reasonable up front but then they neglect to mention the disposal cost of the old unit or perhaps the minimum call out fee that gets added on to the actual installation charge.

There are no hidden costs or surprises with PlumbSpec. Plus, we buy direct from the manufacturers, so you always get the best price available.

If you have a burst hot water system in need of replacement, or just want to upgrade to a solar hot water system, give PlumbSpec a call 24/7 on 0417 555 325

PlumbSpec, for all your plumbing, gas fitting and air conditioning needs.
