National Recall on Air Conditioner due to fire risk

An air conditioning unit is being recalled nationally amid fears it could catch fire due to a power fault. It comes as we are experiencing a record heat wave and drought.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warns anyone who has purchased a Seeley International Pty Ltd Braemar SCHF21C3S or Braemar SCHF25C3S Outdoor Air Conditioner Unit to immediately stop using it.The ACCC warns that the power factor correction capacitors fitted in the affected batches may fail and posed a risk of fire.

The product has been available for sale since October 2016.

“When it’s hot, you’re going to want to use your air conditioner. People with these air conditioner units need to be aware that their desire to cool down may put their lives and the lives of the ones they love at risk,” CFA state fire investigation coordinator Nicole Harvey said.“You need to maintain your air conditioners and evaporative coolers by ensuring the units are regularly serviced according to the manufacturer’s specifications.”To check your air conditioner or evaporative cooler unit, log on to https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recalls

Anyone who purchased the product is also urged to call Seeley International on 08 8328 3844 or email productupgrade@seeleyinternational.com to arrange for a service technician to replace the faulty capacitors.
