Clear All Your Drains

Every few months or whenever you notice that your bathroom drains are draining water slower than normal, take a few minutes to clean out your drains of any debris. If the blockage doesn’t resolve with a dose of drain cleaner (if you want a natural alternative pour ½ cup of bicarb soda down the drain followed by 1 cup of vinegar, leave 5 minutes then pour down a full kettle of boiling water), contact a professional. Also clean your kitchen sink drain regularly.

Clean Your Tap Aerators and Check for Leaks

Monthly, simply remove and clean your aerators of calcium build up. Calcium build up can lead to decreased water pressure and an uneven spray coming out of your tap. Also check all your interior and exterior taps for leaks.

Inspect All Visible Pipes for Corrosion

If you notice any signs of corrosion on your pipes, such as rust or dirt coming through your taps, contact a professional as early as possible.

Examine Your Toilet Cisterns

Check for exterior leaks and any hard water build up or mould inside the cistern.

Maintain Your Septic System & Sewer Line

To keep your septic system running in peak condition, have it inspected on a regular basis. A professional will be able to tell you if you need your septic tank pumping. It is also important to maintain your sewer line and to look for signs that your sewer drain is damaged. If you have a problem with tree roots, arrange to have sewer line snaking on a regular basis in order to prevent a total blockage, or install new pipes if necessary.

Maintain Your Water Heater

A yearly flush of your water heater will help to keep things running smoothly. Don’t forget to check the temperature and pressure relief valve.
